Why Our West Coast Waters Grow Exceptional Rock Lobster
Cold Atlantic swells, rocky reefs and rich upwelling
The Doring Bay coastline sits on the Benguela Current, a cold, nutrient-rich stream that feeds plankton, small fish and kelp forests. These rocky reefs and kelp beds give West Coast rock lobster plenty of shelter and natural food, so they grow slowly, with firm meat and a sweet, clean flavour.

About Us
Doring Bay lies on the wild Matzikama coastline, three hours north of Cape Town, where cold Atlantic swells and giant kelp forests shape one of South Africa’s richest marine zones. This working harbour has long been tied to West Coast Rock Lobster, with cold, oxygen-rich water ideal for landing, holding and preparing live lobster for market.
Today, Doring Bay stands as a small but resilient coastal community built around legal, traceable and responsible lobster handling — a place where the character of the West Coast is reflected in every catch.
